Siddartha Gautama lived about 2500 years ago in Bihar, India. His prince was Siddartha, the surname was Gautama. To protect him from the suffering in the outside world, he lived as a child a secluded and sheltered life. Until he discovered that one had hidden reality for him and the worldly suffering struck him so deeply that he decided to look for the true meaning of life. He gave up his luxury life and went on his way. After many quests and trials, he eventually went under a bodhibome and remained there, and he found the answer to the question of the meaning of life. Life is determined by Karma (cause and effect) and the purpose is to leave this cycle. This requires the knowledge of the Four Truths.
The suffering. (the attachment to earthly existence and not redeemed from the chain of rebirth)
The origin of suffering. (the desire and the desire for lust and possession)
The lifting of suffering. (the destruction of desire and ignorance)
The path to lifting suffering by following "The Eternal Eightfold Road". (see Dharmachakra) For many years he drew through India to proclaim his teaching before entering the Nirvana (the state of calm emotionless salvation).
